Wildlife Viewing

As pioneers of Alaska cruising, and after 50 years of operation, we’ve developed an unrivaled knowledge of the region’s most abundant wildlife areas.

Our routes are designed to allow ample time for up-close encounters. If wildlife viewing is high on your list of priorities during your travels to Alaska, you’ll discover the benefits of our local, insider knowledge.

Commonly sighted terrestrial animals include both brown and black bears, mountain goats, and Sitka black-tailed deer. Occasionally, wolf and moose are seen.

Southeast Alaska is famous for its seasonal migration of humpback whales, which engage in almost constant feeding behaviors. Shipboard hydrophones enable us to listen for whale and other marine mammal communication. Orcas, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, Dall’s porpoise, harbor porpoise, and sea otters are also frequently spotted on our expeditions.
